Bangui, Central African Republic—In a significant move towards fostering peace and social cohesion, the Tawakkol Karman Foundation (TKF), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is implementing a vital project in the war-torn Central African Republic. This initiative, part of the Cooperation Agreement between TKF and FAO, aims to support the Social Cohesion Project amidst the country's ongoing civil war, which erupted in 2014 and saw renewed conflict in 2016.
The civil war has resulted in a dire humanitarian crisis, with the destruction of essential infrastructure, massive displacements, and armed groups controlling 70% of the nation's territory. The project’s primary objective is to reinforce the reconciliation process within communities by training youth leaders who are tasked with promoting messages of coexistence and peace. It also involves organizing meetings between sector representatives of the communities to facilitate dialogue and mutual understanding.
