Tawakkol Karman Foundation
Tawakkol Karman Foundation is an international non-governmental organization established on December 20, 2016, by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman. The foundation works to advance sustainable development and build lasting peace by empowering individuals and communities through education, health, economic opportunity and infrastructure. It also works to strengthen the participation of women and young people in leadership and public life. At the heart of this work is a belief that sustainable development and lasting stability depend on respect for human rights, human dignity, democracy and the rule of law.
What we believe
We believe that every person should have the opportunity to live with dignity, exercise their rights and shape their own future. Our work is guided by the values of freedom, solidarity and peace, and by a commitment to democracy, the rule of law and equitable development. These principles shape our efforts to create meaningful and lasting change in the lives of individuals and communities.
Our Mission
Tawakkol Karman Foundation works to empower people and communities to build more peaceful, democratic and prosperous societies. Through development programs, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and peacebuilding initiatives, we seek to expand opportunity, strengthen communities and help people overcome the barriers that limit their potential. We place particular emphasis on expanding opportunities for women and young people to participate, lead and contribute to public life, while remaining attentive to the social and cultural contexts of the communities we serve. We also promote democratic values and good governance as essential foundations for protecting rights, strengthening institutions and creating sustainable change.
Development
Communities cannot build a more prosperous and stable future without addressing persistent challenges in education, healthcare, livelihoods and essential infrastructure. Tawakkol Karman Foundation mobilizes resources and expertise to support practical development initiatives that respond to community needs, expand access to opportunity and strengthen people’s ability to build sustainable livelihoods. Our development work seeks not only to address immediate needs but also to create the conditions for greater resilience, independence and long-term stability.
Democracy and Peacebuilding
Conflict and political instability can devastate communities, displace families, weaken institutions and deprive people of their fundamental rights to security, freedom and dignity. Tawakkol Karman Foundation works to promote a culture of peace, democratic participation, dialogue and respect for human rights. Through conferences, training programs, civic initiatives and other activities, we support individuals and communities working toward peaceful and inclusive societies. We believe sustainable peace requires more than an end to violence. It depends on accountable institutions, the rule of law, meaningful civic participation and the ability of people to resolve differences through dialogue rather than conflict.
