Tawakkol Karman Foundation has marked International Literacy Day, observed annually on September 8, stressing that the occasion serves as a reminder to policymakers, education advocates, and society at large of the vital role literacy plays in building more sustainable, just, and peaceful communities, and in strengthening reading and writing as gateways to knowledge and development.
The foundation emphasized that literacy is not merely an educational skill but a fundamental human right that enables individuals to exercise their broader rights and opens wider opportunities for freedom and active participation in the global community.
Pioneering education projects
As part of its ongoing commitment to education, the foundation has implemented more than 35 educational projects across Yemen. Among the most notable are the Belqees Literacy Center and the Sadia Literacy Center, both of which have empowered hundreds of students to acquire essential reading and writing skills.
Renewed commitment to building the future
The foundation reaffirmed its dedication to opening the doors of knowledge for all, stressing that literacy is a key step toward a more prosperous future. It also underscored its role in building a culture of lasting peace rooted in equality, justice, diversity, and tolerance, while promoting solidarity and respect for the rule of law—values that allow people to live in harmony with themselves, with others, and with the world around them.
