As part of the seventh season of the Haith Al-Insan program, Tawakkol Karman Foundation has launched the first mobile library dedicated to children in Marib, northeast Yemen. The initiative aims to nurture a culture of reading among children, improve their access to books, and spark their curiosity through creative and interactive experiences.
The project includes a "Reading to the Reader" component, where children receive a variety of age-appropriate books tailored to their interests. Another standout feature is the “visual storytelling” segment, which blends visuals and audio to bring stories to life in an engaging, captivating way.
The library was warmly welcomed by the local community. Parents expressed their appreciation for a project that contributes to developing their children’s skills and fostering a love for learning.
“This initiative couldn’t have come at a better time—it gives our children a chance to gain knowledge despite the challenges of daily life,” one parent said. A teacher in Marib added, “Instilling a love for reading at a young age is a true investment in Yemen’s future.”
Children, too, were visibly excited by the activities. “It felt like I was inside the story when I saw it moving in front of me. I want to read more!” said 10-year-old Abdullah. Rima, age 9, shared her joy: “The books I got are so beautiful—I’ll read them to my little brother too.”
In a country where the education sector continues to struggle, this mobile library offers a much-needed learning environment that opens doors to knowledge and creativity. Tawakkol Karman Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to launching more initiatives that empower children and promote their right to education and culture.
