The Foundation funded a collective project targeting some farmers in Ibb governorate to uproot the Qat tree and plant almonds and other crops as an alternative to Qat.
The Foundation has developed an initiative to abandon Qat cultivation and plant almonds instead, in Bait Al-Rabadi, Jibleh district.
One of the farmers said: We decided to uproot the Qat that drained the water, and we decided to plant other trees.
One of the farmers said: The project is successful, and there is a good turnout, and I am optimistic about its success.
A third farmer said: Almonds, oranges, peaches, and watermelons are suitable in Al-Rabadi area.
Tawakkol Karman Foundation hired agricultural engineers to select the best seedlings that are suitable for the nature of the agricultural region.
An agricultural engineering team hired by the Foundation through “Haith Al-Insan” program broadcasted by Belqees channel during the month of Ramadan decided to plant the almond tree as it suits the land of the villages of Beit Al-Rabadi.
The Foundation's project included planting 1,500 seedlings, mostly almonds, and some other seedlings.
According to the estimates of agricultural engineers, the crop of one almond tree can return each season with a cash crop amounting to 600 thousand riyals, for each almond tree, if it is cared for according to the instructions of agricultural experts. According to these estimates, the total project in the village of Beit Al-Rabadi could yield an amount of 900 million riyals for each season.
