Tawakkol Karman honors Yemen National Football Team for victory in West Asian U15 Boys Championship
Doha, Qatar — On Thursday, December 23, 2021, Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights activist Tawakkol Karman honored the Yemen national football team for their triumphant performance in the West Asian U15 Boys Championship 2021.
At a ceremony held in Doha, Karman lauded the national team's exemplary performance throughout the tournament. She emphasized that the team members had represented Yemen admirably, presenting a positive image of the nation despite significant challenges.
"The team has managed to unite Yemenis and inspire hope at a particularly critical time," noted Karman. "I have always believed in the youth as the architects of the future," she continued, addressing the junior national team members. "Through your conduct and achievements, you embody the best of Yemen."
Team coach Qais Saleh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Karman for her encouragement, describing her initiative to honor the players as a commendable gesture. He also extended his thanks to all Yemenis who supported the team.
Several administrative and technical team members spoke about the team's journey and their achievement in reaching the tournament's final. Karman had pledged to reward all team players and their technical and administrative staff with $5,000 and an iPhone each upon their return to Yemen.
