Humanitarian Aid Campaign During the Covid-19 Pandemic
The population in Yemen continues to suffer from a massive humanitarian crisis amidst the spread of Covid-19. The Coronavirus Panedemic adds a massive burden on the Yemeni people and additional pressure on the health system, where more than half of health facilities in Yemen are closed or partially functionin. In this regard, the Tawakkol Karman Foundation provided financial aid that amounted to 44 million Yemeni riyals and distributed it to over 1145 patients who suffer from chronic diseases such as cancer, leprosy, and kidney failure.
In a statement about the campaign, Ms. Misk Al-Junaid, Executive Director of the Foundation, said: "The campaign is the beginning of a multi-faceted response plan that TKF will implement in the coming period. As part of the foundation’s mission to help Yemenis suffering from the effects of the war that has been going on for six years, now people must contend with pandemic risks that present a massive challenge in developed countries with collapsing health systems."
In the campaign launch, the First Secretary of Taiz Governorate, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Mikhlafi, shared the Local Authority’s Appreciation for Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s assistance and especially in war and siege conditions, pointing to the importance of having capable institutions, which provide humanitarian, and sustainable development projects in response to the urgent demands.
