Tawakkol Karman Foundation Provides Winter Clothes for Syrian Children in Istanbul
Syria is home to immense suffering; especially for children. The armed conflicts have been going on for seven years, and have killed and injured thousands of people. The United Nations stated that the parties to the war in Syria committed about 13,000 grave violations against children, where about 4,000 children lost their lives between the years 2013 and 2018. And 3,500 Children were injured in attacks against civilians in Syria.
War conditions and the endangering lives of civilians have pushed millions of Syrians to seek refuge in several countries, including Turkey and the European Union. According to UNICEF, there are 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey; half of them are children, and thousands of these children are orphans and are in desperate need of aid as winter is approaching.
In response to the urgent need of the children this winter, Tawakkol Karman Foundation (TKF), in cooperation with Masoum Elie Foundation, distributed winter clothes to more than 500 orphaned and displaced Syrian children, including stationery, coats, and winter shoes in December year of 2018.
The Mayor of Uskudar, Hilmi Turkman, was present at the campaign launch, and expressed his appreciation to TKF and Masoum Eli Foundation and thanked them for their humanitarian work toward children in this region.
