Tawakkol Karman Foundation has supported a series of agricultural projects in Taiz governorate in recent years through its development program, Haith Al-Insan, helping women build sustainable livelihoods and take a more active role in their communities.
The projects were designed to create lasting income opportunities, strengthen economic independence and turn personal ambitions into viable businesses. They reflect the Foundation’s belief that empowering women is essential to sustainable development and that investing in their skills benefits entire families and communities, particularly amid Yemen’s prolonged economic and humanitarian crisis.
Among the women supported was Taiba, a displaced young woman from Wadi Al-Dhabab in Saber Al-Mawadim district. Before the war forced her from her home, she relied on farming to meet her basic needs. In 2017, she lost a foot in a landmine explosion. Despite the hardship, the Foundation helped her establish an agricultural nursery, allowing her to regain a source of income and begin a new chapter built on productivity and self-reliance.
The Foundation also supported agricultural engineer Lina Abduljalil in establishing a greenhouse in Al-Ma’afer district. Using modern farming methods designed to conserve water, she transformed barren land into a productive vegetable farm. The project enabled Lina to realize a long-held ambition while offering a successful model of modern agriculture in the area.
In Al-Nashma, Taiz governorate, the Foundation launched another agricultural project for agricultural engineer Ahlam Abdullah, giving her an opportunity to put her academic training into practice. The project helped her turn her field of study into a productive enterprise that provides an income and strengthens her contribution to the local community.
Agricultural engineer Najat Abdulghani, also from Al-Ma’afer district, received support for a project inspired by a passion for farming that began in childhood. The initiative gave her the chance to turn her knowledge and enthusiasm into a productive business, helping her meet daily challenges and achieve greater economic stability.
These stories illustrate Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s broader approach to women’s economic empowerment: developing sustainable projects around beneficiaries’ needs, skills and ambitions. The aim is to create lasting impact that goes beyond short-term assistance by opening genuine paths to production, independence and economic security.
Tawakkol Karman Foundation continues to carry out development initiatives across Yemen’s governorates in agriculture, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and infrastructure. Through these efforts, the Foundation seeks to strengthen local resilience, invest in people and create more sustainable opportunities for work and a better quality of life.
