“The program eased the psychological stress I faced at work due to my limited English skills.”

With these heartfelt words, Muneer Al-Amri opens his story with Leaders for Future scholarship provided by Tawakkol Karman Foundation.

Muneer says:

I am a civil engineer and my role is a project officer. Before enrolling in the English language program through the scholarship offered by Tawakkol Karman Foundation, I struggled significantly with tasks that required English, such as communication, preparing work emails, and writing reports. I also constantly needed a translator during meetings with foreign colleagues in humanitarian organizations. My lack of English proficiency weakened my ability to perform tasks effectively, which had a negative psychological impact on me.

The turning point and the beginning of my success came when I saw the announcement for Tawakkol Karman Foundation's "Leaders for Future" program. I applied for the scholarship and was pleasantly surprised to receive an email accepting me into the partial scholarship for the English language diploma. I then made a plan to divide my time so that my work wouldn't be affected by my studies. The flexibility to choose study times, especially evening classes after work, was a huge help.

I began my studies with high spirits, and after completing five courses, I can now speak English and use it to accomplish my work tasks. I am still continuing my studies with the goal of obtaining a TOEFL certificate. Although I am still in the process of studying, the program has restored my self-confidence, and I have noticed significant improvements in my professional skills. This is largely due to the importance of the English language across all fields, particularly in my line of work.

The program has strengthened my hope for a better future and my confidence that I will master English. Additionally, the accompanying training in English has enabled me to acquire knowledge on democracy, peacebuilding, and international humanitarian law. Overall, the training has been excellent by all standards. I gained a wealth of information that I didn't know before, including digital marketing skills, how to market oneself in a crowded world, and resume writing techniques. All of this has boosted my self-confidence.

I am deeply grateful to Tawakkol Karman Foundation for providing me with this great opportunity, especially in the time of war. I also appreciate your commitment to empowering youth for a better future.
