Taiz | 2024 Tawakkol Karman Foundation has launched a life-saving kidney transplant initiative in the city of Taiz, providing critical support to Yemeni patients suffering from kidney failure who cannot afford the prohibitive costs of surgery.
The project has successfully enabled dozens of patients from various age groups to undergo kidney transplant operations, all of which have been completed with positive outcomes. With each surgery costing approximately $12,000, Tawakkol Karman Foundation fully funded the procedures, ensuring patients received care at the Taiz Kidney Transplant Center.
This initiative stands out as a transformative humanitarian effort in Taiz, a region grappling with the absence of specialized medical facilities and limited governmental support for essential healthcare services.
The kidney transplant project is part of the foundation’s broader Health Program, which seeks to bolster Yemen's struggling healthcare system and provide critical care for vulnerable patients. In the midst of a collapsing health infrastructure, the initiative has offered a lifeline to those in dire need, reaffirming the foundation's commitment to addressing urgent medical challenges across the country.
