Tawakkol Karman Foundation has transformed the dream of Yaser, a young man from the Al-Qahirah district in Taiz (Southwest Yemen), into a reality, turning it into a project that benefits both him and his family. Yaser lost his sight at a young age and was absent from school starting in third grade. He spent four years away from his studies, but upon returning, he was no longer the child racing towards school every morning.
Instead, he became a symbol of willpower and resilience after losing his sight.
In 2012, Yaser embarked on a new dream, using his sense of hearing to overcome life's difficulties and continue pursuing his goals. He established his own small business—a fast food café. However, after two years, the project was halted due to the outbreak of the war.
Tawakkol Karman Foundation supported Yaser in realizing his dream by renting a commercial space and setting it up as a bean packaging factory, fully equipped with necessary tools and powered by a solar energy system.
Thanks to Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s support, Yaser and his family successfully built their own business and became one of the symbols of perseverance and self-reliance in Taiz, embodying strength and determination against adversity.
This project is part of Tawakkol Karman Foundation's annual “Haith Al-Insan” program, which includes 30 humanitarian and developmental initiatives focused on education, health, and economic empowerment, aiming to support the most affected populations in various Yemeni governorates due to the ongoing war.
