Tawakkol Karman Foundation has fulfilled the dream of a Yemeni champion in the sport of bodybuilding after he left it in search of a job to support his family. Between 2001 and 2014, crowds cheered for Mahdi Bazumah, the Yemeni Republic's bodybuilding champion, as he consistently ranked first in sporting competitions.
Bazumah was forced to sacrifice and leave the sport he loved to begin working as a fisherman in Al-Mukalla city, Hadramout Governorate, to provide for his family. Tawakkol Karman Foundation opened doors of opportunity for him, enabling him to realize his dream of establishing his own gym—a source of income for him and his family, and an opportunity to train new athletes.
The gym, named after him, has become not only a place for training but also a center for supporting the local sports community, all thanks to his determination and dedication to the field of sports.
This initiative falls within the framework of the annual Haith Al-Insan program implemented by Tawakkol Karman Foundation. The program includes 30 humanitarian and developmental projects in key areas of development: education, health, and economic empowerment. Its aim is to provide support and assistance to the most affected populations by the war in various Yemeni governorates.
