After nearly seven months of continuous work, Tawakkol Karman Foundation completed the road widening and paving project in Jarah neighborhood of Al-Masrakh Directorate in Taiz (southwest Yemen). The project, funded by the foundation in response to a request from the area's residents to end their long-standing suffering, cost $130,000. The project, serving five main villages in Al-Masrakh Directorate: As-Sada, Al-Kadah, As-Sahd, Al-Kasar, and Al-Aqoor, benefits 5,000 people. It included rehabilitating the road by leveling, building retaining walls, followed by paving with stones and constructing culverts for rainwater drainage. The importance of the project lies in its implementation in a rugged mountainous area, where residents of the targeted villages faced great difficulties in delivering food supplies, and many of their children were unable to continue their education due to the rough road conditions. Many lost their lives in the mountains while attempting to be transported to hospitals. The project will contribute to alleviating the community's suffering in accessing services, especially for women and children who bear the burden of transporting supplies from distant areas. Additionally, it will reduce school dropout rates. It is worth mentioning that the project commenced on October 11, 2022, concluding years of suffering for the residents of Jarah neighborhood despite their repeated pleas and appeals to local authorities.
