Tawakkol Karman Foundation Renovates Fishing Boat Damaged by Cyclone Chapala (Aden, Yemen)
Tawakkol Karman Foundation has renovated the fishing boat of three fishermen in Aden which was damaged by Cyclone Chapala, which struck Yemen in 2015. The three young men, Bassem, Mohammed, and Alyas’a, have been fishing for years. Cyclone Chapala, which hit the coasts of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden, destroyed the engine of their boat.
The three fishermen said that the cyclone destroyed the engine of the boat, which is the source of their livelihood. They also lost fishing equipment and the Magellan device, and the boat became like an empty box.Tawakkol Karman Foundation intervened through the "Haith Al-Insan" program, which is presented on Belqees channel in Ramadan, and provided a marine engine for the boat to replace the destroyed one, in addition to fishing equipment and sailing tools.
Alyas’a is one of the three fishermen and a member of the popular resistance in Aden that defeated the Houthi militia before he returned to his work as a fisherman. He said that Tawakkol Karman Foundation funding was sufficient and provided many needs that were lacking and lost due to Cyclone Chapala.
Alyas’a adds that he has new hopes after the support they received from Tawakkol Karman Foundation, starting with expanding the business for more income and preparing to get married and start a new stage in his life.
