Tawakkol Karman Foundation has established a restaurant project in Socotra Island, Yemen. The beneficiary of the project, Salem Ahmed, worked as an assistant cook at a company in Socotra but lost his job when the company closed down. Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s Haith Al-Insan team built a restaurant that reflects Socotri identity and heritage, and provided Salem with all the necessary cooking equipment. The project aims to empower Salem to work and provide for his family as well as advance Socotri culture.
