Tawakkol Karman Foundation has established a restaurant project in Socotra Island, Yemen.
The beneficiary of the project, Salem Ahmed, worked as an assistant cook at a company in Socotra but lost his job when the company closed down.
Prior to that, Salem was a fisherman, but he lost his brother, who worked with him at sea, which caused him to lose his passion for working as a sailor. Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s Haith Al-Insan team built a restaurant that reflects Socotri identity and heritage, and provided Salem with all the necessary cooking equipment.
The project aims to empower Salem to work and provide for his family.
