Tawakkol Karman Foundation has set up a weaving workshop in the city of Ja'ar, located in Abiyan Governorate, to support local artisan Yaser, a lifelong Ma'awuz weaver. Yaser, who has been practicing the craft since childhood, was forced to leave his profession due to his family's financial hardships. In order to provide for his family of eight, he resorted to working on a motorcycle owned by a relative.
Given Yaser's extensive skills in weaving, design, and sewing machine maintenance, the Haith Al-Insan program at Tawakkol Karman Foundation decided to invest in him by establishing a dedicated weaving workshop. This will enable Yaser and his mother to return to their beloved craft and once again pursue the profession they know so well.
In addition to reviving Yaser's career, the new workshop will create valuable employment opportunities for both men and women in the community, fostering local economic growth.
