Tawakkol Karman Foundation has established a charcoal factory in Wadi directorate of Hadramout governorate, aiming to convert ordinary charcoal from the Sesbania tree into compressed charcoal, thus addressing the environmental problem caused by the tree.
The project is the brainchild of a young man named Omar, who completed his mechanical engineering studies in the US before returning to Hadramout. After unsuccessful attempts to find a job, Omar started working on the charcoal production project, which has become the first of its kind in Hadramout.
The factory not only provides job opportunities for many needy families but also sells charcoal as a local product with higher quality and cheaper price compared to the imported product. This is a significant milestone in Hadramout's efforts to become self-sufficient and sustainable, and it is a great example of how young entrepreneurs can create innovative solutions to address local environmental problems.
