Tawakkol Karman Foundation has established a literacy center in the displacement camp located in the Mariamah area of the city of Sayun in Hadramout governorate.
The camp is home to about 300 displaced families from various regions of Yemen, and most women in the camp are deprived of education due to war and marginalization.
Saadia, one of the camp's residents and a teacher, had been working on an initiative to educate and eliminate illiteracy among women in the camp for three years. However, her tent was not suitable for teaching, and there was a lack of books and educational supplies, which led some women to abandon education.
Tawakkol Karman Foundation's “Haith Al-Insan” team decided to support this initiative by building a literacy center near the camp, as well as furnishing it and providing it with all the necessary educational materials. This will enable women to learn in better conditions and with better resources than they had in the past.
