Tawakkol Karman Foundation Opens Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Center for the Marginalized (Taiz, Yemen)
Racism continues to be part of the culture of many societies, despite the humanitarian efforts of many international institutions to overcome this humanitarian predicament.
Yemen’s Muhamasheen live in isolation from Yemeni social life due to extreme discrimination they face. To help address such racial discrimination, the Tawakkol Karman Foundation opened a vocational training center for the Muhamasheen residents who currently live in makeshift tents in the countryside of Taiz. The Muhamasheen residents of the "Al-Qahfah Al-Hamra" camp, in the countryside of Taiz, suffer from poverty and unemployment. In response, the Foundation has opened a center that would enable residents to learn skills and professions that would qualify them for the workforce.
Faisal Saad, a resident of the camp, says that he goes to look for work, but is often rejected, either because he is not proficient in the profession or because he is unable to provide work equipment. The Foundation provided a headquarters for the center and heavy equipment for cutting and shaping iron, aluminum, and wood, as well as blacksmithing, carpentry, and painting equipment. Faisal Saad, one of the beneficiaries of the center, says that this project will enable them to become blacksmiths, carpenters, and welders, and bring them to the labor market qualified and experienced in various professions. The project of the Rehabilitation Center comes within the series of activities of the Tawakkol Karman Development Foundation's program "Haith Al-Insan" in the fourth season, which was shown by Belqees TV during the month of Ramadan in 2022.
