Karman to commemorate Khashoggi's legacy in Washington
Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights advocate, Tawakkol Karman, will attend the DAWN Annual Gala & Awards Dinner on October 3, 2024, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
This event commemorates the sixth anniversary of the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Karman, a close friend of Khashoggi, is expected to deliver a speech emphasizing the need for accountability in his murder and honoring Khashoggi's legacy of freedom, democracy, and human rights.
She will advocate for the dignity and respect of the region's people, reflecting Khashoggi's vision for a democratically governed Middle East.
DAWN, founded by Khashoggi, calls for global civil society and governments to take a stand on this anniversary.
The ceremony will also present the 2024 DAWN Integrity Award to Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sitta, a plastic surgeon who volunteered in Gaza, and Mehdi Hasan, founder of Zeteo and former MSNBC host.
