Human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Tawakkol Karman, held a meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Monday, July 17, 2023, in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.

During the meeting, Karman praised President Kagame for his effective efforts in combatting fascism, bringing perpetrators of massacres to justice, establishing an emerging democracy, and promoting transitional reconciliation and justice in Rwanda.

Karman's visit to Kigali is part of a delegation attending the "Women Deliver 2023" international conference on women. The conference, titled "Spaces, Solidarity and Solutions," will run from July 17 to 20 and is one of the largest multi-sectoral gatherings of its kind, attracting attendees from around the world.

As a prominent guest speaker, Karman is scheduled to deliver a speech during the conference. In addition to participating in the conference, Karman will also observe Rwanda's experience in transitional justice and reconciliation.

Karman's visit serves as an opportunity to learn about the Rwandan government's success in promoting peace and stability following the 1994 genocide. The country has made significant strides in rebuilding its social and economic structures, improving access to education and healthcare, and promoting women rights.
