Nobel laureates, including Tawakkol Karman, live moments of suffering of Rohingya refugees on Burmese border
Three human rights activists and Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including Tawakkol Karman, went today to the Burmese border for a closer look at the situation of displaced Rohingyas, assess the violence and crimes against them, and show more solidarity and support.
As part of the Women's Initiative launched by six women holding Nobel Peace Prize since 2006, Karman, accompanied by Iran’s Shirin Ebadi and Northern Ireland's Mairead Maguire, visited the camps of Rohingyas, exploring the situation of women there and listening to shocking stories.
About 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled the escalating violence committed by the army since last August, and are now living in refugee camps in the neighboring country of Bangladesh.
