The Tawakkol Karman Foundation is proud to announce reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Milat School in Jabal Habashi, Taiz. There are 1490 students from 32 villages located around Taiz. Prior to the reconstruction, the school was destroyed as a result of the war in Yemen.
This project by Tawakkol Karman Foundation included building a wall around the school, providing study tables and teaching boards, fixing doors and windows, and preparing an office for the school management. This project also covered painting the classes’ inside and outside walls and paving the schoolyard.
Due to the suspension of the study in some schools in the other villages, the number of students increased in Al-Wafa school, and this led the school manager to leave his office for the second-grade students to study.
Ithar, a student in the sixth grade, stated that she and her classmates would sit on the floor of the school classes because of the lack of chairs and tables. She added that the students cannot stay focused with the teachers due to the noise of the motorbikes and the animals who move beside the classes as there were no walls, doors or windows in the school.
According to Hamoud Saeed, the parents’ chairman, Al-Wafa School was established in 1980, but it did receive any kind of support from the authorities or the foundations. This left the school without walls even with the constant calls from the people to rehabilitate it.
The project of reconstruction and rehabilitation of Al-Wafa Milat School is under the series of Tawakkol Karman Foundation’s development projects, known as “Haith Al-Insan”. This project is presented by Belqees Channel during the month of Ramadan.
Due to the suspension of the study in some schools in the other villages, the number of students increased in Al-Wafa school, and this led the school manager to leave his office for the second-grade students to study. The management meetings then were made under a tree nearby the school; however, this was not enough to resolve the issue due to the increasing number of students, who continue their education under the shadow of the trees or inside the destroyed classes.
