Tawakkol Karman Foundation Completes Jarah Sub-district Road Project (Taiz, Yemen)
On Thursday, May 25, 2023, Tawakkol Karman Foundation completed a road paving project in the Jarah area in Al-Masrakh Directorate of Taiz, southwestern Yemen, after nearly seven months of continuous work. The project, with a cost of $130,000 funded by the foundation, was initiated in response to a request from the local residents to alleviate their long-standing suffering.
The project serves five main villages in Al-Masrakh Directorate: As-Saddah, Al-Kadah, As-Sahd, Al-Kisar, and Al-Aqur. It benefits a population of 5,000 people. The project included road rehabilitation through surveying and leveling, construction of retaining walls, as well as paving with stones and the creation of drainage channels for rainwater.
The significance of the project lies in its implementation in a rugged mountainous area where the residents of the targeted villages faced great difficulties in delivering food supplies. Moreover, many children were unable to continue their education due to the rough road conditions, and numerous lives were lost in the mountains while attempting to transport patients to hospitals.
The project will contribute to alleviating the community's hardship in accessing services, particularly for women and children who bear the burden of transporting essential supplies from distant areas. Additionally, it will help reduce school dropout rates.
It is worth mentioning that the project commenced on October 11, 2022, marking the end of years of suffering for the residents of Jarah Isolation, despite their repeated pleas and appeals to local authorities.
