Intercultural Dialogue | March 27, 2020
Ignoring Arab women's issues and the absence of their political and societal role did not prevent them from taking the initiative and advancing to the first ranks of change and pushing the democratic transition in the Arab countries forward. The Arab women's active participation in the political struggle and in enforcing women's rights struggle was one of the most important reasons behind the overthrew of authoritarian regimes. And it formed the starting points of the democratic transformation path in Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Sudan, and Algeria.
To discuss this experience, its feasibility, and prospects. TKF held a symposium titled ‘Women and the Democratic Transition in the Arab World.’ The participants were women leaders from several Arab countries.
Dr. Roqaya Ashmal participated in an intervention on the Moroccan experience. Ms. Safaa Ahmed participated in an intervention on the Sudanese experience. Ms. Najla Al-Omari participated in an intervention on the Yemeni experience.
