Yemeni unity was not a passing event in the history of Yemenis; its declaration on May 22, 1990, was the embodiment of the will of Yemenis and the culmination of decades of struggle led by the Yemeni National Movement.

The historical scene of ancient Yemen indicates that Yemen has experienced multiple periods of disintegration due to internal despotism and external interference. However, unity remained a national aspiration and dream that aligned with the Yemeni people's desire to live under the umbrella of a state that provides them with stability, security, freedom, and dignity.

Yemenis were aware of the importance of unity and its positive impacts on political, social, economic, and psychological levels. They also recognized its significance in dealing with global poles and international systems. By examining the models of unity in other countries and the methods used to mend societal divisions and address problems, one can understand the imbalances caused by the ruling regimes in northern and southern Yemen, which led to a setback. Today, after more than three decades of unity, the country's situation appears grim. Relying on the entire population and political elites to fulfill their national role and adopt policies that preserve the entity of unity is crucial. Unity has represented one of the most important national constants in the history of the country.

In light of the challenges facing the Yemeni unity entity amidst the ongoing war in Yemen for the past eight years, the Tawakkol Karman Foundation organized a celebratory event on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of achieving Yemeni unity. The event, titled 'Unity... Destiny and Fate,' included various artistic and discussion segments. It also featured a symposium entitled: 'Yemeni Unity between the Reality of Fragmentation and the Inevitability of Survival,' with the participation of a group of specialists in history and political analysis.
