Tawakkol Karman Foundation supports 32 development and humanitarian projects with more than 180 million riyals through Haven for Humanity 2020 program
Tawakkol Karman Foundation has announced the continuation of the Haven for Humanity charity competitional program broadcasted on Balqees satellite channel during the month of Ramadan, which aims to shed light on the suffering of a wide segment of Yemenis who are affected by the devastating war that the country has been witnessing for five years.
Misk Al-Junaid, the executive director of the foundation, said that the broadcasting of the second part of the Haven for Humanity program throughout the month of Ramadan provides assistance to the most afflicted groups through economic and developmental empowerment and through accessing the necessary services that will help them in enhancing their resilience and livelihoods.
Haven for Humanity is a program of different sectors and aims that provide aid to the populations most affected by war; the first part of which was implemented during Ramadan last year.
Al-Junaid indicated that Haven for Humanity program is one of the most important programs of Tawakkol Karman Foundation that works in the field of development and peace, and the first part of which was carried out last Ramadan 2019
She added, "We are now in the process of broadcasting the second part of Haven for Humanity in 2020 and it may continue as an annual tradition for the foundation in order to raise awareness of the importance of humanitarian field work and the great impact it has on the ground."
Al-Junaid pointed out that Tawakkol Karaman Foundation has implemented projects and initiatives at the cost of more than 180 million Yemeni riyals besides the production cost that was covered by Balqees Media company which is the implementing company on the ground and Balqees Channel which is the media partner of Tawakkol Karaman Foundation that made Haven for Humanity program part and partial of its programs that will be broadcasted during Ramadan.
According to Al-Junaid, the Foundation hopes that this program will constitute a great motivation and model for companies and capital owners in supporting the humanitarian work in Yemen and touching upon the real needs of people, and supporting creative ideas, initiatives and small projects that will help individuals to become self-dependent and provide them with job opportunities that will spare them the humiliation of begging.
On her part, Hana Saleh, director of Balqees Media Company, the implementing company, and the director of Haven for Humanity program, said that the program targets IDPs, the destitute, children and people with special needs.
She explained that the program focuses more on women, stressing that opportunities provided for women this year reached 80%.
Saleh indicated that the program was able to implement and film projects in the Yemeni governorates of Taiz, Hadramawt, Marib, Shabwa and Al-Dhali'.
She noted that the development projects this year have diversified to include small income-generating projects, classrooms, water pipelining, and agricultural projects at the level of individuals.
The director of Haven for Humanity program in Balqees stressed that this program will constitute a milestone in the relationship between humanitarian work and media in Yemen, and will have a significant impact on the lives of the targeted people and their families.
Saleh expressed her thanks to the team of Balqees Media Company and Balqees Channel and all of the workers in the field who have overcome the difficulties and contributed significantly to turning ideas into reality, as well as to Tawakkol Karman Foundation that supported this program hoping to continue in having a work that serves the Yemeni people and makes the holy month of Ramadan a time for it.
The program will be broadcasted during the month of Ramadan, and episodes will contain questions for the audience besides offering daily prizes of big amounts of money distributed to three winners who are chosen by lot after sending the answer to the episode’s question via WhatsApp.
