Tawakkol Karman Foundation Visits Central African Republic in Cooperation with FAO
The Central African Republic is a country that suffers from poverty and is a landlocked country that fought a civil war that broke out in 2012. The escalation of violence there led to the destruction of the infrastructure, mass displacement, and a dire humanitarian crisis for many by 2016.
The CAR has a population of more than 4 million people. International reports indicate that 800,000 people were displaced, while more than 100,000 new displaced people were registered in 2017, all of whom became internally displaced or refugees in neighboring countries needing assistance.
On March 11, 2019, TKF cooperated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and visited the Central African Republic to implement a Social Integration Partnership project. The main objective of this project was to nurture young leaders who will convey messages of coexistence and peace to promote the reconciliation process among the spectrum of society through holding meetings between local representatives and the people.
Within the framework of this project, members of TKF completed their official duties in the Central African Republic and met with the FAO Country representative to address other elements and qualifications that leaders need to create the curriculum for project activities.
